What are my 5 senses experiencing right now?
I see this webpage and the assortment of items on my desk. One of these items is my daily flip calendar I made. I took quotes from my favorite TV shows, books & movies to make the calendar so I would have a good quote to inspire me everyday.
I can also see the graying sky out the sliver of window in front of me. The weathermen are calling for snow but GA weather is always a bit unpredictable.
I hear the sounds of my fingers hitting the keys, my heater blowing behind me, and voices coming from the next room. Otherwise it's fairly quiet. Occasionally I will turn on Spotify or my iTunes library but I haven't today.
I can still taste the vanilla almond milk from my cereal this morning. After my decision to eat healthier last year (a decision that did not go quite as well as I'd hoped), I started using almond milk in my cereal. It doesn't work well with all cereals (like Special K Chocolate for example), but for the most part it tastes great.
I smell my apple air freshener and the faint scent of essential oils. Sadly, I think my body is threatening to get a cold since I've been sniffling and sneezing this morning. Time to take some Vitamin C.
I feel the slight scratchiness of my sweater, the keys under my fingers, the persisting soreness of my muscles (curse you, yoga!)... Now that it's the new year and time for resolutions, my goal is to go to yoga every week so maybe I won't be this sore every time I go. Although, better sore than sorry I suppose.

31 Day Blogging Challenge Day 5: 10 Songs I Love Right Now
Today's post is about 10 songs I love right now. I decided to choose songs I like but that also get stuck in my head a lot (not always a bad thing). They are mostly all newish and pretty much all country. I spend most of my car rides listening to 94.9 The Bull so a lot of what I hear on a daily basis is country music.
If you don't listen to a lot of country (and don't hate it like some people do) then maybe this post will introduce you to a few new great songs.
1. Fire Away- Chris Stapleton
Fire away
Take your best shot
Show me what you got
Honey, I'm not afraid
Rear back and take aim
And fire away
This video is exceptionally sad and the message of the song is both encouraging and depressing. But it's my favorite Chris Stapleton song and just a really great song in general.
2. Peter Pan- Kelsea Ballerini
You're always gonna fly away, just because you know you can
You're never gonna learn there's no such place as Neverland
You don't understand
You'll never grow up
You're never gonna be a man
Peter Pan
Honestly, I can't think of Peter Pan without picturing Robbie Kay on Once Upon a Time, but I still love this song. They do not play it on the radio nearly enough in my opinion. And I'm sureall a lot of women have encountered a childish man.
3. Blue Ain't Your Color- Keith Urban
Blue looks good on the sky
Looks good on that neon buzzin’ on the wall
But darling, it don’t match your eyes
I’m tellin’ you
You don’t need that guy
It’s so black and white
He’s stealin’ your thunder
Baby, blue ain’t your color
This song is so darn catchy. Every time I hear it, and even when I haven't heard it in a while, it runs through my brain nonstop. I'm not usually a huge fan of Keith Urban songs, even though I like Keith Urban. This is an exception.
4. Darlin' Don't Go- Sundance Head
5. Pick Any Small Town- Josh Gallagher
Yeah where a 'Welcome' sign on the side of the road
A ribbon on a tree to the troops come home
Where a line in the water, waiting on a bass to bite
Yeah, where a hand-me-down Chevy that grandpa drove
Front porch swing where time ticks slow
Where a hidden piece of heaven most folks drive right by
I'll be honest, I was not the biggest Josh fan when he was on the Voice. So I did not expect to like his original song as much as I did. But it's catchy and Josh's voice reminds me of Justin Moore in this song.
6. Circle of Love- Jennifer Nettles
Circle of love, halo of light
When Jesus was born, on that Christmas night
And oh what a night! That Holy night was
When Bethlehem glowed, in the circle of love
This is a song that I believe was recorded specifically for the Dolly Parton Christmas movie. Dolly and Jennifer sang it on the Voice (I like the Voice in case you haven't noticed) this past season but it wasn't until my cousins wanted to sing it in the church Christmas play that I really listened to the lyrics. It's a great Christmas/Christian song and it worked well in our play.
7. Rock On- Tucker Beathard
Rock on like you don't miss me
Rock on like it's all good
Rock on 'til you forget me
Just like you said you would
I gotta tell you I can't stand
The thought of someone else holding that hand
I should have put a rock on
I like word play and maybe that's part of the reason I like this song so much. This is one of those turn the radio up and sing along songs for me. It's upbeat even though it's about regrets. And I just like it, okay?
8. Forever Country
This song is a compilation of other songs and is sang by numerous country artists. If you have not seen the video, you should look it up. I love when artists come together to do things like this.
9. Song For Another Time- Old Dominion
Let's be brown eyed girl sweet Caroline
Free fallin' small town Saturday night
Before you lose that loving feeling
Let's go dancing on the ceiling
Keep on living that teenage dream
Paradise city where the grass is green
Pretty soon I'll be so lonesome I could cry
But that's a song for another time
This is another one of those songs that gets stuck in my head. But I haven't grown tired of it yet. Also, I have yet to learn all of the words so I need to work on that. The concept of this song is neat. It references several popular songs (and not just in the country genre). I read an article today about the idea behind the song and the fact that they just compiled a lot of their favorite songs and it worked...makes it even better.
10. Die a Happy Man- Thomas Rhett
If I never get to see the Northern lights
Or if I never get to see the Eiffel Tower at night
Oh, if all I got is your hand in my hand
Baby, I could die a happy man
This isn't the newest Thomas Rhett song to come out on the radio, but it's still my favorite. Yes, I've heard it fifty-leven times but I still can't help but turn the radio up when it comes on. It's the new country wedding song!

4. Darlin' Don't Go- Sundance Head
All I know is I was wrong
To ever treat you that way
Well I'll promise I will never do it again
Lord I know what they say it's true, baby
And I could never live one day without you
Please come home
In case you do not watch the Voice (or American Idol) and have no idea who Sundance Head is, you should Google him. He's a soulful dude with a large beard. But more than that, he seems like a great person and he has this incredible voice that I love to listen to. This song was his original composition and it's pretty great. To ever treat you that way
Well I'll promise I will never do it again
Lord I know what they say it's true, baby
And I could never live one day without you

31 Day Blogging Challenge Day 4: What I'm Afraid Of
What am I afraid of?
A few things come to mind when I ask myself this question. Clowns. Porcelain dolls. Falling from high places. Other people falling from high places. Riding with someone else in traffic. Those creepy Asian ghost things from The Grudge.
But if I really think about it, there are two main things that scare me most. (Although I'm creeped out just looking at that picture.)
Number one is confrontation. And that's confrontation of any kind really. I do not like to face someone I've done wrong. I do not like to hurt people's feelings. And I'm not really good at dealing with people who are upset, even my own friends and family. I get very anxious when I am in these situations. Over the years, I'd like to think I've gotten better at facing my problems (and other's problems) but I still run away or avoid them when possible.
I've tried to look back over my childhood and teenage years to determine why exactly I am this way and I can't pinpoint a moment that would explain it. I've always been a bit shy, especially when I was younger, so I suppose it's no surprise that I have a bit of anxiety as an adult. But I don't think I have social anxiety. I'm fine talking with people. Sometimes I am quiet if I'm around people I don't know well or am surrounded by outgoing extroverts who tend to dominate conversations. But I never feel extremely anxious when forced to talk with strangers. I also don't mind public speaking for the most part, as long as I know what I am talking about. I'm not the best at improvisation.
But conflict? I try to avoid that. Dealing with anything resembling conflict makes me sick to my stomach. This is one reason I hedge on advancement in the workplace. It's not that I would find it difficult to instruct others on what to do, but if they didn't listen? And what if I had to fire someone? I hate even the thought of that. I'm not authoritative and people do tend to run over me a bit, which can be a problem. I'm sure they have classes for this type of thing?
As for the second fear of mine, I have only almost had a panic attack once in my life, and it happened at a Cobra Starship concert. The day started off well. My friend Kayla accidentally won tickets on the radio to go bowling with the band and then attend the concert. She wasn't able to go, so Courtney and I went. In case you've never been bowling with Cobra Starship, it's pretty fun. #TeamNate
After bowling, we headed over to the show and with the added bonus of early entry, we were at the front of the venue, close to the stage and ready to jam out. But then the doors opened and let all of the teenagers in. Only partway through the opening act, I was closer to a bunch of strangers than I ever wanted to be. I was unable to move in any direction. And at first I was fine. We took some photos and tried to enjoy the music. But after a while, I was hot and tired of not being able to move. Not to mention the area we were encased in had begun to turn in a mosh pit-y direction.
So we attempted an escape. But alas, no one else could move either. So I began pushing my way out (I literally shoved one guy so hard). It took longer than I would have liked and people were being super unhelpful and I screamed at them even though they couldn't hear me over the music. By the time I finally freed myself from the crowd I was on the verge of an emotional breakdown.
Needless to say, I have not set foot in such a crowd since.
On a related note, I also have an irrational fear of being trapped in a wall with other people. It's like a recurring nightmare that leaves me feeling short of breath. I saw an episode of Supernatural once where a character was trapped in a wall so that's what I envision. Only, being trapped alone isn't what freaks me out. It's when my brain adds in a whole line of other people who are preventing my escape and who may also trample me whilst trying to get out themselves.
I have, in fact, been trampled before but it was in a cornfield so it doesn't hold the same weight. Beware of haunted cornfields!
So yeah, it's not that I mind crowds and I'm not afraid to be in a small space. It's the idea of being trapped in that space with other people that really scares me. Figure that one out, psych majors.

31 Day Blogging Challenge Day 3: My Favorite Quote
Today's (actually today!) blog topic is my favorite quote. This is a tough one for me because there are some truly amazing quotes out there. But the first quote that pops into my mind is this one:
I'm not sure where this quote originated but I saw it on a sign at a store (Hobby Lobby, Ross??) and took a photo on my phone. I've used it as my lock screen ever since.
This quote is a good reminder that there's no hurry to find my way. No hurry to find love. No hurry to figure out what to do with my life. With so many people I grew up with getting married, having kids and advancing in their careers, it's hard not to worry about my own future. Will I ever get married? Will I have kids? Will I leave behind more than photographs of myself?
Sometimes I need to be reminded that it's okay to be 29 and single. It's okay that I occasionally feel like I'm going through the motions. Bad things happen everyday and nothing is certain in this life except death. But letting fear of what could happen can prevent you from living today. So don't worry about meeting society's deadlines or expectations of others and just live your life. Have fun. Travel. Treat each day as a new adventure. And then someday you will find your happily ever after. Believe that!

31 Day Blogging Challenge Day 1: Intro
I've wanted to complete a writing challenge for a while so I figured 2017 was the perfect time to start. I decided on a challenge by The Veggie Witch.

So welcome to my blog and this challenge! This is going well so far! Just kidding, I'm two days behind. Oh well. Such is my life.
So today, day "1", is my intro. Prepare yourself for anything because there is no telling what will happen during this challenge.
The picture is from my 29th birthday festivities last week. (Escape games are a lot of fun btw.) I'm not a super diligent blogger, as you may have noticed, but I'm working on that.
Here's to January and completing this challenge.

30 Under 30: Peace out 2016!
Welcome to 29! The last year has gone by quickly and I have no doubt that this next year will too. I have to say, 2016 has been a rough year. I lost a cousin and one of my best friends. Other friends and family members are going through difficult times as I type this. And if one more celebrity dies before January, I feel like that sets a new record for sad days in Hollywood.
Here is for hoping 2017 is a better year.
The past two months have been busy with not a lot of time for new activities. Upon looking back over my list today, I've realized it's going to be quite difficult to complete some of the tasks listed. I'm always a bit too ambitious when I make lists. But I'm going to give at least some of these items a shot.
Only one thing has been checked off the list since the last update, but it was a goal I've been working towards for over a year.
1. Visit at least one MLB stadium.
2. Binge watch a TV show.
3. Visit a location made famous by moves or TV.
4. Learn how to change a tire.
5. Learn to sew a button on a shirt.
6. Run/Walk a half marathon.
7. Eat dinner at one of the world's best restaurants. I attempted to do this on my birthday but neglected to make reservations on time. :(
8. Sing karaoke at a bar.
9. Learn how to make a good cocktail.
10. Volunteer.
11. Go skiing.
12. Take a pottery class.
13. See a Broadway play.
14. Ride a bike.
15. Re-purpose furniture.
16. Finally finish that rough draft.
17. Craft more.
18. Clean up my mess.
19. Learn Spanish.
20. Get better at meal planning.
21. Develop a workout routine.
22. Read at least half of the books I own and have never read.
23. Go to a sushi bar.
24. Buy a couch.
25. Scrapbook.
26. Get my photography certification. Done! I am now a certified photographer! I don't know what this actually means for me, but hey, I did it.
27. Treat myself!
28. Make jewelry.
29. Complete a 30 day writing challenge. The goal is to complete this in January so it may turn out to be a 31 day writing challenge.
30. Finish old projects.
Bring on the new year!
